Transitioning from ACS (Automated Commercial System) to ACE?
Have you been reading about the new Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) and had a few concerns about transitioning from ACS (Automated Commercial System) to ACE?
The Trade Tech team is taking care of it for you! In fact, you do not need to do a thing except fill out the same data on the cargo security filing screen, or provide the same elements to your service center. ACE is simply a backend system change for Customs which will bring visibility to different commercial environments, including truck, ocean and rail, and 48 participating government agencies.
There is nothing new for you to do or think about. It’s business as usual!
We have recently seen some misleading industry press about not having to file AMS. This is not true. The regulations are not changing and NVO’s security filing requirements remain the same.
ACE is simply the replacement for and modern version of ACS. In fact, we are already sending out data to Customs in the more modern feed X-12 and we will have our certification by the end of January 2012.
According to the CBP web site, ACE will benefit U.S. citizens, the trade community, government agencies, and the economy as a whole. The trade community will have a more efficient web-based interface with government agencies, reducing the cost and burden of processing transactions for both the government and the trade community. Government agencies with border enforcement and regulatory responsibilities will have the ability to share information to better target and analyze goods coming into the country. The biggest benefit is ACE will move goods to market faster and at lower costs, which will have a positive impact on the U.S. economy.
Participating in ACE supports the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) dual mission to facilitate legitimate trade and secure the Nation’s borders. In addition, there are many tangible benefits for importers, brokers, and carriers, including:
Ø Financial savings with the periodic monthly payment capability.
Ø Reduced processing time at the border with features like electronic truck manifest.
Ø Ability to view shipment status and store data via the ACE Secure Data Portal.
Ø Capabilities to develop over 100 customized reports.
